Abstract
In one embodiment, a method comprises storing information in a database that describes cutting locations on a web upon which multiple images are printed; embedding, in an area on the web, a key into the database; and using the key to ascertain, from the database, the cutting locations.
Claims52
A method comprising:
- storing information in a database that describes cutting locations on a web upon which multiple images are printed;
- embedding, in an area on the web, a key into the database;
- and
- using the key to ascertain, from the database, the cutting locations.
A method comprising:
- printing, in a single area on a web upon which multiple images are printed, data that can be used to ascertain x and y cutting locations for the multiple images, said data being printed on the web in a location that, for at least a closest adjacent image, does not physically define, for purposes of performing a cutting operation, a cutting location;
- and
- ascertaining said x and y cutting locations from said data.
A method comprising:
- storing information in a database that describes cutting locations relative to a web upon which multiple images are printed, the multiple images being arranged in one or more spreads, at least one of the images being a photograph;
- embedding, on at least one of a leading or trailing edge relative to at least one spread, a key into the database;
- and
- accessing, with the key, the information in the database, to ascertain the cutting locations.
A method comprising:
- printing multiple images on a web of material, said multiple images defining at least one spread;
- printing, in an area on the web, data that can be used to ascertain x and y cutting locations for said at least one spread, said data being printed in an area proximate at least one of a leading edge or a trailing edge for said at least one spread, said area in which said data is printed comprising an area that does not physically define, on the web, any x or y cutting locations;
- and
- ascertaining said x and y cutting locations from said data.
A method comprising:
- reading data in a data location on a web of material that embodies multiple printed images, said data location not being intended to define a physical cutting location;
- using said data to access information that describes at least one cutting location on the web;
- using said accessed information to effect cutting of the web of material in at least one location.
A method comprising:
- ascertaining at least one boundary on a web between multiple objects;
- and
- embedding, in an area on the web, a key into a database that describes at least one cutting location relative to said at least one boundary and along which the web is to be cut to singulate the multiple objects.
A computer-readable medium having stored thereon a data structure comprising:
- an ID value portion that stores one or more ID values, individual ID values being associated with individual spreads on which images are printed;
- and
- a cutting information portion associated with the ID value portion, said cutting information portion storing cutting information that describes x and y cutting locations for a spread associated with a particular ID value.
A web comprising:
- multiple printed images defining at least one spread;
- and
- at least one printed object on the web, said one printed object comprising a key into a database that describes x and y cutting locations for at least one spread.
An apparatus comprising:
- a reader component configured to read data printed on a web, the web comprising multiple printed images;
- and
- a look up component associated with the reader component and configured to use said data to look up at least one cutting location.
A database comprising:
- one or more computer-readable media comprising:
- an ID value field that holds at least one ID value associated with an individual spread on which images are printed;
- and
- a cutting information field that holds cutting information, said cutting information comprising at least one cutting location for a spread associated with a particular ID value.
A printer comprising:
- a web-receiving area configured to receive a web that embodies multiple printed images;
- at least one printing component that is configured to print upon the web, said at least one printing component being configured to print:
- multiple images defining at least one spread on a web, and
- one or more scannable objects on the web that can be scanned and used to ascertain, from a location remote from the web, at least one cutting location for the multiple images.
A system comprising:
- a printer comprising:
- a web-receiving area configured to receive a web that embodies multiple printed images;
- and
- at least one printing component that is configured to print upon the web, said at least one printing component being configured to print:
- multiple images defining at least one spread on a web, and
- one or more scannable objects on the web that can be scanned and used to ascertain, from a location remote from the web, at least one cutting location for the multiple images;
- and
- a database comprising:
- one or more computer-readable media comprising:
- an ID value field that holds at least one ID value associated with an individual spread on which images are printed;
- and
- a cutting information field that holds cutting information, said cutting information comprising at least one cutting location for a spread associated with a particular ID value.
A system comprising:
- means for printing data that can be used to ascertain at least one cutting location for multiple images on a web;
- and
- means, remote from said web, for storing information associated with said at least one cutting location, which information can be accessed using data that is printed by said means for printing.
A cutter comprising:
- a processing component configured to use data, printed in a single area on a web upon which multiple images are printed, to ascertain at least one cutting location for at least one of the multiple images, wherein said data is printed on the web in a location that, for at least a closest adjacent image, does not physically define, for purposes of performing a cutting operation, a cutting location;
- and
- a cutting component configured to perform at least one cut based on the cutting location ascertained from the data.
