Abstract
A low profile prosthetic foot comprises a foot member extending at an incline from an anterior portion to a posterior portion thereof and configured to flex during motion, and an adapter mounted solely at a posterior section thereof to the posterior portion of the foot member so that the adapter's anterior section can move relative to the foot member and “roll-up” onto the foot member during motion.

A low profile prosthetic foot comprising:
- a foot member having a length extending between a front end and a rear end, the foot member also having an anterior portion and a posterior portion, the posterior portion inclined at an angle relative to the anterior portion and relative to a support surface, said foot member having multiple toe members configured to flex substantially independently of one another at least partially along their length, said toe members defined by one or more longitudinal slots extending through said foot member from the front end and rearwardly therefrom;
- a heel member having a length extending from a front end to a rear end thereof, and having a generally flat anterior portion and a curved posterior portion, the anterior portion of the heel member secured to the foot member intermediate the front and rear ends of the foot member so as to define a longitudinal slot between the foot member and the heel member, said heel member having multiple heel sections configured to flex substantially independently of one another at least partially along their length, said heel sections defined by one or more longitudinal slots extending through said heel member from its rear end and forwardly therefrom;
- and
- an adapter having anterior and posterior sections and a base, the adapter connected solely at its posterior section to the foot member, the anterior section configured to move relative to the foot member, the base inclined relative to the support surface at an angle generally equal to the angle of the posterior portion of the foot member relative to the support surface, wherein at least a portion of the base is configured to contact the posterior portion of the foot member, and wherein the base defines an edge at the anterior section, the edge having a radius of curvature, the anterior section configured to roll-up along said edge onto the foot member.
A low profile prosthetic foot comprising:
- a foot member extending between a front end and a rear end thereof and having an anterior portion and a posterior portion, the posterior portion inclined at an angle relative to the anterior portion and relative to a support surface;
- a heel member connected to the foot member and extending rearwardly from a point intermediate the front and rear ends of the foot member;
- and
- an adapter having anterior and posterior sections and a base, the adapter connected at its posterior section to the posterior portion of the foot member, the anterior section adapted to move relative to the foot member, the base inclined at an angle relative to the support surface, wherein at least a portion of the base is configured to contact the posterior portion of the foot member, and wherein the base defines an edge at the anterior section, the edge having a radius of curvature, the anterior section configured to roll-up along said edge onto the foot member.
A low profile prosthetic foot comprising:
- a foot support extending between a front end and a rear end and having an anterior portion and a posterior portion, the posterior portion inclined at an angle relative to a support surface;
- a heel support connected to the foot support;
- and
- an adapter having anterior and posterior sections and a base, the base inclined at an angle relative to the support surface, wherein at least a portion of the base is configured to contact the posterior portion of the foot support, the adapter mounted to the posterior portion of the foot support, the anterior section configured to move relative to the foot support.
An adapter for use in connecting a prosthetic foot to a socket, intermediate prosthesis, such as a pylon, or the like, comprising:
- a pyramid provided at an upper portion of the adapter, said pyramid defining an axis extending generally vertically through said pyramid relative to a support surface;
- and
- a base provided at a lower portion of the adapter and extending along a length of the adapter, the base having an inclined surface that inclines upward from an anterior section of the adapter to a posterior section of the adapter relative to the support surface;
- wherein the base along the anterior section has a roll-up surface adapted to allow relative motion between the adapter and the prosthetic foot when the adapter is connected to the prosthetic foot.
A low profile prosthetic foot, comprising:
- a first elongate foot member extending between a front end and a rear end;
- a second elongate foot member positioned below the first elongate foot member and having a heel portion;
- a resilient compressible member positioned between the first foot member and the second foot member;
- and
- an adapter mounted to the rear end of the first foot member,
- wherein a gap exists between an anterior section of the adapter and the first foot member.
In combination, an elongate foot support adapted for use in a prosthetic foot and an adapter mounted to a posterior portion of the foot support, wherein a gap exists between an anterior section of the adapter and the posterior portion of the foot support.
A low profile prosthetic foot comprising:
- a foot support extending between a front end and a rear end and having an anterior portion and a posterior portion, the posterior portion inclined at an angle relative to a support surface;
- and
- an adapter mounted to the posterior portion of the foot support and having an anterior section, a posterior section, and a base inclined at an angle relative to the support surface wherein at least a portion of the base contacts the posterior portion of the foot support, wherein the adapter defines a gap between the anterior section and the foot support, and wherein the anterior section is configured to move relative to the foot support.
