Abstract
The present inventors successfully cloned the rice Na+/H+ antiporter gene. It is possible to produce salt tolerant plants by using the isolated gene, or genes with equivalent functions.
Claims5
A protein encoded by a DNA selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) a DNA encoding a protein comprising the amino acid sequence described in SEQ ID NO.:
- 2, and
- (b) a DNA comprising the coding region of the nucleotide sequence described in SEQ ID NO.:
- 1.
A protein having an Na+/H+ antiporter activity wherein said protein is encoded by DNA obtained from a monocotyledonous plant and selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) a DNA encoding the protein comprising the amino acid sequence described in SEQ ID NO.:
- 2, wherein the number of amino acids that are substituted, deleted, inserted and/or added is 20 or less, and
- (b) a DNA specifically hybridizing under highly stringent conditions to the DNA consisting of the nucleotide sequence described in SEQ ID NO:1, wherein highly stringent conditions comprise washing at 56° C. in a wash solution containing 0.1×SSC and 0.1% SDS.
A method for the production of a protein wherein said method comprises the steps of:
- cultivating a transformant cell transformed with DNA selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) a DNA encoding a protein comprising the amino acid sequence described in SEQ ID NO.:
- 2, and
- (b) a DNA comprising the coding region of the nucleotide sequence described in SEQ ID NO.:
- 1;
- and recovering the expressed protein from said cell or the supernatant of the culture thereof.
A method for production of a protein having an Na+/H+ antiporter activity wherein said protein is encoded by a DNA obtained from a monocotyledonous plant
- wherein said method comprises the steps of:
- cultivating a transformant cell transformed with DNA encoding a protein having an Na+/H+ antiporter activity wherein said DNA is obtained from a monocotyledonous plant and selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) a DNA encoding the protein comprising the amino acid sequence described in SEQ ID NO.:
- 2, wherein the number of amino acids that are substituted, deleted, inserted and/or added is 20 or less, and
- (b) a DNA specifically hybridizing under highly stringent conditions to the DNA consisting of the nucleotide sequence described in SEQ ID NO:1, wherein highly stringent conditions comprise washing at 56° C. in a wash solution containing 0.1×SSC and 0.1% SDS.
An antibody that binds to a protein having an Na+/H+ antiporter activity wherein said protein is encoded by a DNA obtained from a monocotyledonous plant and selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) a DNA encoding the protein comprising the amino acid sequence described in SEQ ID NO.:
- 2, wherein the number of amino acids that are substituted, deleted, inserted and/or added is 20 or less, and
- (b) a DNA specifically hybridizing under highly stringent conditions to the DNA consisting of the nucleotide sequence described in SEQ ID NO:1, wherein highly stringent conditions comprise washing at 56° C. in a wash solution containing 0.1×SSC and 0.1% SDS.
