Abstract
A system and method for providing playback of multiple video streams simultaneously is shown and described. A priority is assigned to individual windows of a plurality of windows used for playback of the video streams. A current window being accessed by a user is assigned a higher priority than nonactive, or background, windows. Playback characteristics, such as video resolution, transparency, and audio volume, are reduced in the playback of videos presented in nonactive windows in relation to video played in the active window. Accordingly, a user's attention may be drawn more to the active window than to the nonactive windows, while allowing the video and audio data in the nonactive windows to be provided to the user.
Claims52
A method comprising the steps of:
- determining that a first video data is to be displayed in a first window simultaneously with a second video data to be displayed in a second window, the second window being different than the first window;
- and
- facilitating, at a first time, in response to the step of determining that the first video data is to be displayed in the first window simultaneously with the second video data, a modification of the first video data to generate a modified first video data having a first video characteristic different than the first video data when the second window is active.
A system comprising:
- a video window monitor to determine which of a plurality of windows are video windows used to display video datas;
- a window priority monitor to determine a handling priority of the windows;
- and
- a video controller coupled to the video window monitor and to the window priority monitor to modify a characteristic of a first video associated with a first video window based on a priority of the first video window relative to a second video window.
A computer readable medium tangibly embodying a program of instructions, said program of instructions to:
- determine that a first video data is to be displayed in a first window simultaneously with a second video data to be displayed in a second window, the second window being different than the first window;
- and
- facilitate, at a first time, a modification of the first video data to generate a modified first video data having a first video characteristic different than the first video data when the second window is active.
A system comprising:
- a processing module;
- and
- memory operably coupled to the processing module, wherein the memory stores operational instructions that cause the processing module to:
- determine that a first video data is to be displayed in a first window simultaneously with a second video data to be displayed in a second window, the second window being different than the first window;
- and
- facilitate, at a first time, a modification of the first video data to generate a modified first video data having a first video characteristic different than the first video data when the second window is active.
A method comprising the steps of:
- identifying priorities associated with a plurality of video windows, wherein the video data windows include a first video window to present a first video data and a second video window to present a second video data;
- providing the first video data with a first characteristic, when the first video window has a higher priority than the second video window;
- and
- providing the first video data with a second characteristic, when the second video window has a lower priority than the second video window, wherein the first characteristic draws greater attention to a user than the second characteristic.
A system comprising:
- a video application to display a plurality of video windows, including a first video window to present a first video data and a second video window to present a second video data;
- an application programming interface to apply priority-based properties to a video engine, said application programming interface including:
- a window priority monitor to determine a handling priority of each video window of the plurality of video windows;
- and
- a video controller coupled to the window priority monitor to generate said priority-based properties for modifying playback of said first and second video datas in each of the plurality of video windows;
- a video engine to:
- receive said priority-based properties from said application programming interface and
- process said first and second video data based on the priority-based properties.
