Abstract
The invention relates to a process for remediation of a fluid contaminated with alkylene oxide, involving contacting the contaminated fluid with an aqueous absorbent to yield a fat absorbent having absorbed fluid, conferring intimate contact of fat absorbent and alkylene oxide and conversion of alkylene oxide; and, an apparatus for remediation of the fluid which has a converter having inlet means connected to the outlet of a fluid absorber for contacting fluid and aqueous absorbent, a holding unit having a volume V for the fat absorbent, and outlet means connected to the inlet of a fluid desorber.
Claims17
A process for remediation of a fluid contaminated with up to 1000 ppmv of alkylene oxide, said process comprising:
- contacting the contaminated fluid with an aqueous absorbent to yield a fat absorbent having absorbed fluid;
- conferring intimate contact of fat absorbent and alkylene oxide;
- and,
- converting the alkylene oxide.
A process for remediation of a fluid contaminated with up to 1000 ppmv of alkylene oxide, said process comprising:
- (a) contacting the fluid with an aqueous absorbent at an absorption efficiency in the range of from 50% to 99.9% to yield a fat absorbent having absorbed fluid;
- (b) maintaining for a desired residence time a temperature appropriate for reacting alkylene oxide,
- (c) desorbing absorbed fluid;
- (d) cooling the lean absorbent to a temperature required for the absorption efficiency;
- and,
- (e) recycling to the absorption stage.
A process comprising:
- converting ethylene to ethylene oxide with formation of byproducts, water and CO2;
- isolating the product ethylene oxide from the recycle gas;
- removing CO2 from the recycle in the CO2 removal section;
- and,
- remediating the CO2 by a process comprising:
- contacting the contaminated fluid with an aqueous absorbent to yield a fat absorbent having absorbed fluid;
- conferring intimate contact of fat absorbent and ethylene oxide;
- and,
- converting the ethylene oxide.
An apparatus for remediation of a fluid contaminated with up to 1000 ppmv of alkylene oxide, wherein the apparatus comprises:
- a converter comprising:
- inlet means connected to an outlet of a fluid absorber for contacting fluid and aqueous absorbent;
- a holding unit having a volume V for fat absorbent;
- and,
- an outlet means connected to the inlet of a fluid desorber.
A remediated fluid obtained by the process comprising:
- contacting a fluid contaminated with up to 1000 ppmv of alkylene oxide with an aqueous absorbent to yield a fat absorbent having absorbed fluid;
- conferring intimate contact of fat absorbent and
- alkylene oxide;
- and,
- converting the alkylene oxide.
