Abstract
A novel rice cultivar, designated ‘Francis’, is disclosed. The invention relates to the seeds of rice cultivar ‘Francis’, to the plants of rice ‘Francis’ and to methods for producing a rice plant produced by crossing the cultivar ‘Francis’ with itself or another rice variety. The invention further relates to hybrid rice seeds and plants produced by crossing the cultivar ‘Francis’ with another rice cultivar.
Claims22
A rice seed designated ‘Francis’ wherein a representative sample of said seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. ______.
A rice plant, or parts thereof, of variety ‘Francis’, seed of said variety having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. ______.
A method for producing a rice variety ‘Francis’-derived rice plant, comprising:
- a) crossing rice variety ‘Francis’ wherein a sample of seed was deposited under ATCC accession number ______, with a second rice plant to yield progeny rice seed;
- and
- b) growing said progeny rice seed, under plant growth conditions, to yield said rice variety ‘Francis’-derived rice plant.
A method for producing a rice variety ‘Francis’-derived rice plant, comprising:
- a) crossing rice variety ‘Francis’ wherein a sample of seed was deposited under ATCC accession number ______, with a second rice plant to yield progeny rice seed;
- b) growing said progeny rice seed, under plant growth conditions, to yield said rice variety ‘Francis’-derived rice plant;
- c) crossing said rice variety ‘Francis’-derived rice plant with itself to yield additional rice variety ‘Francis’-derived progeny rice seed;
- d) growing said progeny rice seed of step (c) under plant growth conditions, to yield additional rice variety ‘Francis’-derived rice plants;
- and
- e) repeating the crossing and growing steps of (c) and (d) from 0 to 7 times to generate further rice variety ‘Francis’-derived rice plants.
A method for producing a rice variety ‘Francis’-derived rice plant, comprising:
- a) crossing rice variety ‘Francis’ wherein a sample of seed was deposited under ATCC accession number ______, with a second rice plant to yield progeny rice seed;
- b) growing said progeny rice seed, under plant growth conditions, to yield said rice variety ‘Francis’-derived rice plant;
- c) crossing said rice variety ‘Francis’-derived rice plant with another rice plant to yield additional rice variety‘Francis’-derived progeny rice seed;
