Abstract
A novel cotton cultivar, designated PM 2168 RR, is disclosed. The invention relates to the seeds of cotton cultivar PM 2168 RR, to the plants of cotton PM 2168 RR and to methods for producing a cotton plant produced by crossing the cultivar PM 2168 RR with itself or another cotton variety. The invention further relates to hybrid cotton seeds and plants produced by crossing the cultivar PM 2168 RR with another cotton cultivar.
Claims27
Seed of cotton line designated PM 2168 RR, representative seed of said line having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-______.
A cotton plant, or partthereof, having all the physiological and morphological characteristics of the line PM 2168 RR, representative seed of said line having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-______.
A method of introducing a desired trait into cotton line PM 2168 RR comprising:
- (a) crossing PM 2168 RR plants grown from PM 2168 RR seed, representative seed of which has been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-______, with plants of another cotton line that comprise a desired trait to produce F1 progeny plants, wherein the desired trait is selected from the group consisting of male sterility, herbicide resistance, insect resistance and disease resistance;
- (b) selecting F1 progeny plants that have the desired trait to produce selected F1 progeny plants;
- (c) crossing the selected progeny plants with the PM 2168 RR plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
- (d) selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait and physiological and morphological characteristics of cotton line PM 2168 RR listed in Table 1 to produce selected backcross progeny plants;
- and
- (e) repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times in succession to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait and all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of cotton line PM 2168 RR listed in Table 1 as determined at the 5% significance level when grown in the same environmental conditions.
