Abstract
The present invention enabled the detection and quantification of CAST, which is localized to synapses and tightly bound to the cytomatrix, and of the mRNA encoding the CAST. Furthermore, it was revealed that CAST functions as a protein scaffold for localizing RIM1 to synapses, contributing as a molecular basis for active zone formation.
Claims19
A protein selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) a protein having the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 2;
- and
- (b) a protein localized to synapses and having the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 2, wherein one or more amino acid residues are deleted, substituted, or added.

A DNA selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) a DNA having the nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 1;
- and
- (b) a DNA that hybridizes under stringent conditions to a DNA that has a nucleotide sequence complementary to the nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 1, and which encodes a protein localized to synapses.
2 more elements
A DNA selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) a DNA having the nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 1;
- and
- (b) a DNA having a nucleotide sequence with 90% or more homology to the nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:
- 1;
- and encoding a protein localized to synapses.
