Abstract
The invention provides lipid A deficient mutant Neisseria meningitidis cells, pharmaceutical compositions incorporating such cells, and methods of using such cells.
Claims21
A transgenic Neisseria meningitidis cell comprising a disrupted msbB gene, wherein the cell has reduced lipooligosaccharide (LOS) as compared to a corresponding wild-type Neisseria meningitidis cell.
An isolated and purified polynucleotide comprising a nucleic acid sequence encoding an msbB gene from Neisseria meningitidis.
An isolated and purified polypeptide comprising a MsbB polypeptide from Neisseria meningitidis.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising
- (a) a transgenic Neisseria meningitidis cell comprising a disrupted msbB gene, wherein the cell has reduced lipooligosaccharide (LOS) as compared to a corresponding wild-type Neisseria meningitidis cell;
- and
- (b) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein the composition is capable of eliciting an immune response against Neisseria meningitidis.
