Abstract
A method for typing a strain of a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) in an infected animal, said method comprising detecting the presence or concentration of a peptide sequence within a cell of a particular type taken from said animal, wherein the presence or concentration of said peptide sequence within said cell type is characteristic of a particular strain of TSE.
Claims19
A method for typing a strain of a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) in an infected animal, said method comprising detecting the presence or concentration of a peptide sequence within a cell of a particular type taken from said animal, wherein the presence or concentration of said peptide sequence within said cell type is characteristic of a particular strain of TSE.
A method according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the presence or concentration of said peptide sequence is determined using an antibody or specific binding fragment thereof, which is specific for said peptide sequence.
A method according to any one of the preceding claims which is carried out as a cellular assay.
A kit for typing a strain of a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) using a method according to any one of the preceding claims, said kit comprising an antibody or a binding fragment thereof which is specific for a peptide sequence derived from a TSE which is found within a cell of a particular cell type of an infected animal and wherein the presence or concentration of said peptide sequence within said cell type is characteristic of a particular strain of TSE, and means for detecting said antibody.
A method for typing a strain of a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) in an infected animal substantially as hereinbefore described.
