Repair method for defects in data lines and flat panel display incorporating the same

A repair method for a flat panel display allowing repair of data line defects, comprising:

• providing a flat panel display including
• a plurality of gate lines and a plurality of data lines intersecting to define a plurality of pixel regions;
• a plurality of pixel electrodes disposed in the pixel regions respectively;
• a plurality of first shielding metal lines disposed between the pixel electrodes and the data lines in the pixel regions respectively, each first shielding metal line separated from the others;
• and
• at least two first backup wires across the adjacent first shielding metal line and data line, wherein the first backup wires are isolated from the data lines or the first shielding metal lines or isolated from both of them;
• and
• in the event of a defect being detected in a first data line, one of the first shielding metal lines adjacent to the defect being selected, a pair of first backup wires on both sides of the defect being electrically connected to the first data line and the selected first shielding metal line.

A repair method for a flat panel display allowing repair of data line defects, comprising:

• providing a flat panel display including
• a plurality of gate lines and a plurality of data lines intersecting to define a plurality of pixel regions;
• a plurality of pixel electrodes disposed in the pixel regions respectively;
• a plurality of first shielding metal lines disposed between the pixel electrodes and the data lines in the pixel regions respectively, each first shielding metal line separated from the others;
• at least two first backup wires across the adjacent first shielding metal line and data line, wherein the first backup wires are isolated from the data lines or the first shielding metal lines or isolated from both of them;
• a plurality of second shielding metal lines disposed between the pixel electrodes and the gate lines in the pixel regions respectively, each first shielding metal line separated from the others;
• and
• at least two second backup wires across the adjacent second shielding metal line and gate line, wherein the second backup wires are isolated from the gate lines or the second shielding metal lines or isolated from both of them;
• in the event of a first defect being detected in a first data line, one of the first shielding metal lines adjacent to the first defect is selected, with a pair of first backup wires on both sides of the first defect electrically connected to the first data line and the selected first shielding metal line;
• and
• in the event of a second defect being detected in a first gate line, one of the second shielding metal lines adjacent to the second defect is selected, with a pair of second backup wires on both sides of the second defect electrically connected to the first gate line and the selected second shielding metal line.
