A yoke assembly is disclosed for connecting and securing to each other rolls (1, 2) forming a nip in an extended nip press, whereby at least one of the rolls (1) of the extended-nip press includes loading means (3), advantageously at least one loading shoe for loading the endless-loop blanket (4) of one roll (1) against the other one (2) of the extended-nip press rolls so as to establish a nip (N), wherein the lower roll (1) and the upper roll (2) are dismountably connected to each other and the yoke assembly connecting the rolls (1, 2) of the extended-nip press to each other includes rotatable connecting members (7, 8) by means of which the extended-nip press rolls (1, 2) are detachably connected to each other by their bearing blocks (5, 6). The invention is characterized in that the connecting member (7, 8) comprises a first clamping surface (24) adapted slidably rotatable on the respective mating surface (20, 21) of a first roll bearing block (5) so that the first clamping surface (24) and the respective mating surface (20, 21) of the first roll bearing block (5) to be connected therewith form a pivotal joint (10, 11) about which the connecting member (7, 8) can be rotatably disengaged from the mating surface (22, 23) of a second roll bearing block (6) and, respectively, engaged with the latter mating surface (22, 23).
A yoke assembly for connecting and securing to each other rolls (1, 2) forming a nip in an extended nip press, whereby at least one of the rolls (1) of the extended-nip press includes loading means (3), advantageously at least one loading shoe for loading the endless-loop blanket (4) of one roll (1I) against the other one (2) of the extended-nip press rolls so as to establish a nip (N), wherein the lower roll (1) and the upper roll (2) are dismountably connected to each other and the yoke assembly connecting the rolls (1, 2) of the extended-nip press to each other includes rotatable connecting members (7, 8) by means of which the extended-nip press rolls (1, 2) are detachably connected to each other by their bearing blocks (5, 6), characterized in that the connecting member (7, 8) comprises a first clamping surface (24) adapted slidably rotatable on the respective mating surface (20, 21) of a first roll bearing block (5) so that said first clamping surface (24) and said respective mating surface (20, 21) of said first roll bearing block (5) to be connected therewith form a pivotal joint (10, 11) about which the connecting member (7, 8) can be rotatably disengaged from the mating surface (22, 23) of a second roll bearing block (6) and, respectively, engaged with said mating surface (22, 23).
The yoke assembly of any one of foregoing claims, characterized in that the connecting members (7, 8) adapted to connect the bearing blocks (5, 6) of the roll heads of rolls (1, 2) to each other are linked to each other and connected to one (5) of the bearing blocks at the end portions of the first clamping surfaces (24), advantageously via a link plate (9), whereby the connecting members (7, 8) thus linked to each other are pivotally rotatable about pivot points (10, 11) by means of a pressurized-medium-driven actuator (13) adapted to cooperate therewith.
The yoke assembly of any one of foregoing claims, characterized in that the connecting members (7, 8) are adapted lockable in regard to each other by locking means (14, 15, 16) adapted to operate between the connecting members (7, 8) joining the bearing blocks (5, 6) with each other.
The yoke assembly of any one of foregoing claims, characterized in that the connecting members (7, 8) joining two bearing blocks (5, 6), which are at least partially situated above one another, are located to both sides of the machine-direction center axis of the bearing blocks (5, 6) so that one (5) of the connecting members is on one side of said center axis while the other one (6) is on the opposite side of said center axis.
A method for connecting and securing to each other rolls (1, 2) forming a nip in an extended nip press, in which method the bearing blocks (5, 6) at the ends of the nip-forming rolls (1, 2) are dismountably connected to each other by connecting members (7, 8) and a connecting member (7, 8) is used adapted rotatably movable between a disengaging position and an engaging position, characterized in that the connecting member (7, 8) is moved between its disengaging and engaging positions by way of rotating the connecting member so as to slidably rotate a first clamping surface (24) of the connecting member on a mating surface (20, 21) provided on the bearing block to be clamped by means of the connecting member.
