Abstract
Medical catheters adapted for use within a body vessel and methods of manufacturing are presented herein. The medical catheter comprises a tubular catheter shaft having a distal end that fits within the body vessel. The tubular catheter shaft comprises an unfilled or low-loaded inner liner and/or outer shell. The medical catheter also comprises a radiopaque segment that comprises a radiopaque material embedded between the inner liner and outer shell. The radiopaque material can be in the form of an ink, powder, or paste.
Claims19
A medical catheter adapted for use within a body vessel, the medical catheter comprising:
- a tubular catheter shaft having a distal end that fits within the body vessel and comprising unfilled or low-loaded inner liner and/or outer shell;
- and
- a radiopaque segment comprising radiopaque material embedded between the inner liner and outer shell.
A method for making a medical catheter comprising the steps of:
- providing a medical catheter having an outer shell;
- ablating a distal end portion of the medical catheter to remove a portion of the outer shell;
- applying a radiopaque material to the ablated distal end portion of the catheter;
- and
- applying material to re-form the outer shell over the radiopaque material within the ablated distal end portion of the catheter.
A medical catheter comprising a radiopaque segment produced by a method comprising the steps of:
- providing a medical catheter having an outer shell;
- ablating a distal end portion of the medical catheter to remove a portion of the outer shell;
- applying a radiopaque material to the ablated distal end portion of the catheter to form a radiopaque segment;
- and
- applying material to re-form the outer shell over the radiopaque material within the ablated distal end portion of the catheter.
