Abstract
An electroluminescent device has, as the electroluminescent layer, a metal compound selected from organic complexes of non rare earth metals.
Claims25
An electroluminescent device comprising (i) a first electrode (ii) an electroluminescent layer comprising a layer of a light emitting metal compound selected from organic complexes of formula (M)n+m (Lα)n (L1)m, where M is a non rare earth metal, n+m is the valency state of M and m can be 0, Lα is as specified in the specification and L1 is a charged organic ligand and (iii) a second electrode.
An electroluminescent device as claimed in any one of the preceding claims in which the second electrode is selected from aluminium, calcium, lithium, silver/magnesium alloys
An electroluminescent device as claimed in any one of the preceding claims in which there is a lithium fluoride layer formed on the second electrode.
An electroluminescent device as claimed in any one of the preceding claims which emits light with a wavelength in the range of 400 nm to 2200 nm.
An electroluminescent device as claimed in any one of the preceding claims in which L1 has the formula
- 32
A compound of the formula
- 33
- where R4 is an alky group and R3 is hydrogen, an alkyl group or R4O.
