Abstract
A method of encrypting metadata that can be represented by a tree structure. The method involves generating an encryption key for a predetermined node of the metadata using a function that takes as input parameters an encryption key for an upper node of the predetermined node and information specifying the predetermined node, and encrypting data of the predetermined node using the generated encryption key.

A method of encrypting metadata that is represented by a tree structure, comprising:
- generating an encryption key for a predetermined node of the metadata using a function that takes as input parameters an encryption key for an upper node of the predetermined node and information specifying the predetermined node;
- and
- encrypting data of the predetermined node using the generated encryption key.
A method of decrypting metadata that is represented by a tree structure, comprising:
- generating an encryption key for a predetermined node of the metadata using a function that takes as input parameters an encryption key for an upper node of the predetermined node and information specifying the predetermined node;
- and
- decrypting data of the predetermined node using the generated encryption key.
A method of managing metadata that is represented by a tree structure, comprising:
- receiving a request for metadata of a predetermined node of encrypted metadata;
- verifying a license for the requested metadata;
- and
- providing decryption information for the requested metadata if the license for the requested metadata is verified,
- wherein the requested metadata of the predetermined node has been encrypted using a function that takes as input parameters an encryption key for an upper node of the predetermined node and information specifying the predetermined node.
A system which manages encrypted metadata that is represented by a tree structure, comprising:
- an input unit to receive a request for metadata of a predetermined node, which is encrypted;
- a metadata license storing unit to store a user license for the requested metadata;
- and
- a metadata management unit to verify a license for the requested metadata by comparing the license with the user license that is stored in the metadata license storing unit and to output decryption information if the license for the requested metadata is verified,
- wherein the metadata of the predetermined node, which is represented by the tree structure, has been encrypted using a function that takes as input parameters an encryption key for an upper node of the predetermined node and information specifying the predetermined node.
