Abstract
A combination for use in aligning a lamp bulb with the principal axis of a reflector is provided. The combination includes a lamp bulb and a lamp base. The lamp bulb has a pair of electrodes and a filament extending between the electrodes. The lamp base is adapted to receive the electrodes of the lamp bulb. The lamp bulb is secured to the base so that the electrodes extend through the base, the lamp bulb is disposed adjacent the base, and the filament of the lamp bulb is aligned with a predetermined axis extending through the base. The base is configured to be seated in a bore provided in a base receiver mounted adjacent the reflector so as to align the predetermined axis of the base with the principal axis of the reflector. Flashlights employing the combination are also provided.
Claims16
A flashlight comprising:
- a barrel for retaining one or more batteries, the barrel having an end;
- a head assembly mounted to the end of the barrel, the head assembly including a reflector and lens mounted in a mutually fixed relationship, the reflector including a central opening surrounding the principal axis of the reflector;
- a lamp having a filament extending between two electrodes;
- a removable lamp base including an axis and a means for aligning the lamp filament with the lamp base axis;
- a lamp base receiver including a bore and a bore axis that is aligned with the principal axis of the reflector, wherein the removable lamp base is removably seated in the bore such that the lamp base axis and the principal axis of the reflector are substantially co-axial;
- and
- an electrical circuit coupling the electrodes of the lamp to the one or more batteries.
A flashlight comprising:
- a barrel for retaining one or more batteries, the barrel having first and second ends;
- a head assembly mounted to the first end of the barrel, the head assembly including a reflector and lens mounted in a mutually fixed relationship, the reflector including a central opening surrounding the principal axis of the reflector;
- a lamp having a pair of electrodes and a filament extending between the electrodes;
- a lamp base including a lamp base axis and a receiver, wherein the receiver holds the lamp such that the lamp electrodes extend through the base and the lamp filament is aligned with the lamp base axis;
- a lamp base receiver mounted adjacent the first end of the barrel to receive the lamp base, wherein when the lamp base is installed onto the lamp base receiver the lamp base axis is substantially co-axial with the principal axis of the reflector;
- a tail cap at the second end of the barrel;
- an electrical circuit coupling the electrodes of the lamp bulb to the one or more batteries;
- and
- a switch interposed in the electrical circuit.
