Disclosed is a novel use of a chloride channel opener, especially a prostaglandin compound for the treatment of abdominal discomfort. Further disclosed is a novel use of a chloride channel opener, especially a prostaglandin compound for the treatment of functional gastrointestinal disorders.

A method for treating abdominal discomfort in a mammalian subject, which comprises administration of an effective amount of a prostaglandin compound to the subject.
A method for treating abdominal discomfort which comprises administration of an effective amount of a chloride channel opener to the subject.
A method for treating functional gastrointestinal disorders in a mammalian subject, which comprises administration of an effective amount of a prostaglandin compound to the subject.
The method as described in claim 39, wherein the administration is at the amount of 01-10 μg/kg per day.
