Software development environment with design specification verification tool

A method for verifying a software design specification document, the method comprising the computer-implemented steps of:

• verifying the file type of a design specification document file;
• storing one or more function names and associated one or more parameter names that are declared in a function list section of a class specification of the design specification document;
• storing one or more attribute names that are listed in a class attributes section of the class specification;
• for each of one or more functions defined in a function definition section of the class specification, determining whether a respective function name is stored;
• if a respective function name is not stored, then indicating that the respective function is not declared;
• if a respective function name is stored, then determining whether a respective parameter name of one or more parameter names associated in the function definition section with the respective function name is stored;
• if a respective parameter name associated with the respective function is not stored, then
• storing the respective parameter name as an undeclared parameter;
• incrementing an undeclared parameter frequency variable that is associated with the respective parameter name and with the respective function;
• and
• reporting one or more undeclared parameter names, if any, and the value of an associated undeclared parameter frequency variable;
• determining whether a respective attribute name of one or more attribute names associated in the function definition section with the respective function name is stored;
• and
• if a respective attribute name associated with the respective function is not stored, then
• storing the respective attribute name as an undeclared attribute;
• incrementing an undeclared attribute frequency variable that is associated with the respective attribute name and with the respective function;
• and
• reporting one or more undeclared attribute names, if any, and the value of an associated undeclared attribute frequency variable.

A computer-readable medium carrying one or more sequences of instructions for verifying an electronic software design specification document, wherein execution of the one or more sequences of instructions by one or more processors causes the one or more processors to perform the steps of:

• identifying a function defined in a first section of the design specification document;
• automatically determining whether the function is declared in a second section of the design specification document;
• and
• if the function is not declared in the second section, then reporting that the function is not declared.

A computer-readable medium carrying one or more sequences of instructions for verifying an electronic software design specification document, wherein execution of the one or more sequences of instructions by one or more processors causes the one or more processors to perform the steps of:

• verifying the file type of a design specification document file;
• storing one or more function names and associated one or more parameter names that are declared in a function list section of a class specification of the design specification document;
• storing one or more attribute names that are listed in a class attributes section of the class specification;
• for each of one or more functions defined in a function definition section of the class specification, determining whether a respective function name is stored;
• if a respective function name is not stored, then indicating that the respective function is not declared;
• if a respective function name is stored, then determining whether a respective parameter name of one or more parameter names associated in the function definition section with the respective function name is stored;
• if a respective parameter name associated with the respective function is not stored, then
• storing the respective parameter name as an undeclared parameter;
• incrementing an undeclared parameter frequency variable that is associated with the respective parameter name and with the respective function;
• and
• reporting one or more undeclared parameter names, if any, and the value of an associated undeclared parameter frequency variable;
• determining whether a respective attribute name of one or more attribute names associated in the function definition section with the respective function name is stored;
• and
• if a respective attribute name associated with the respective function is not stored, then
• storing the respective attribute name as an undeclared attribute;
• incrementing an undeclared attribute frequency variable that is associated with the respective attribute name and with the respective function;
• and
• reporting one or more undeclared attribute names, if any, and the value of an associated undeclared attribute frequency variable.

An apparatus comprising:

• means for identifying a function defined in a first section of the design specification document;
• means for automatically determining whether the function is declared in a second section of the design specification document;
• and
• means for reporting that the function is not declared if the function is not declared in the second section.

An apparatus comprising:

• means for verifying the file type of a design specification document file;
• means for storing one or more function names and associated one or more parameter names that are declared in a function list section of a class specification of the design specification document;
• means for storing one or more attribute names that are listed in a class attributes section of the class specification;
• means for determining whether a respective function name is stored for each of one or more functions defined in a function definition section of the class specification;
• means for indicating that the respective function is not declared if a respective function name is not stored;
• means for determining, if a respective function name is stored, whether a respective parameter name of one or more parameter names associated in the function definition section with the respective function name is stored;
• means for storing a respective parameter name as an undeclared parameter if the respective parameter name associated with the respective function is not stored;
• means for incrementing an undeclared parameter frequency variable that is associated with the respective parameter name and with the respective function;
• means for reporting one or more undeclared parameter names, if any, and the value of an associated undeclared parameter frequency variable;
• means for determining whether a respective attribute name of one or more attribute names associated in the function definition section with the respective function name is stored;
• means for storing a respective attribute name as an undeclared attribute if the respective attribute name associated with the respective function is not stored;
• means for incrementing an undeclared attribute frequency variable that is associated with the respective attribute name and with the respective function;
• and
• means for reporting one or more undeclared attribute names, if any, and the value of an associated undeclared attribute frequency variable.
