System and method for accurately calculating a mathematical power function in an electronic device

A method for accurately calculating a mathematical power function, comprising the steps of:

• utilizing an application program to calculate a direct estimate of power function value for said mathematical power function during a direct linear interpolation procedure, said application program also calculating an indirect estimate of power function value for a complement power function during an indirect linear interpolation procedure, said application program then performing a final function-estimate calculation procedure to produce a final estimated power function value from said direct estimate of power function value and said indirect estimate of power function value;
• and
• controlling said application program with a processor device to thereby accurately calculate said mathematical power function.

A computer-readable medium comprising program instructions for accurately calculating a mathematical power function by performing the steps of:

• utilizing an application program to calculate a direct estimate of power function value for said mathematical power function during a direct linear interpolation procedure, said application program also calculating an indirect estimate of power function value for a complement power function during an indirect linear interpolation procedure, said application program then performing a final function-estimate calculation procedure to produce a final estimated power function value from said direct estimate of power function value and said indirect estimate of power function value;
• and
• controlling said application program with a processor device to thereby accurately calculate said mathematical power function.

A system for accurately calculating a mathematical power function, comprising:

• means for calculating a direct estimate of power function value for said mathematical power function during a direct linear interpolation procedure, said means for calculating also computing an indirect estimate of power function value for a complement power function during an indirect linear interpolation procedure, said means for calculating then performing a final function-estimate calculation procedure to produce a final estimated power function value from said direct estimate of power function value and said indirect estimate of power function value;
• and
• means for controlling said means for calculating to thereby accurately compute said mathematical power function.
