Alkyl and/or alkenyl glycerol carbamates

Abstract

Alkyl and/or alkenyl glycerol carbamate prepared by reacting a carbonate selected from the group consisting of glycerol carbonate, diglycerol carbonate, polyglycerol carbonate and mixtures thereof, with an amine of the general formula (I): HNR1R2  (I) wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups and alkenyl groups having from 1 to 22 carbon atoms and R2 represents a hydrocarbon group selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups and alkenyl groups having from 4 to 22 carbon atoms, and cyclic alkyl groups having 5 or 6 carbon atoms, are described along with methods for their use as thickeners in surface-active preparations.
