A collection device comprising an open-ended vessel for receiving and holding a fluid substance and a cap configured to position a specimen retrieval device along an inner surface of the vessel when the cap is fixedly associated the vessel.

A collection device comprising:
- a vessel for holding a fluid substance, wherein the vessel comprises an open end, a closed end and a side wall having an inner surface;
- and
- a cap having means for positioning a specimen retrieval device along the inner surface of the vessel when the cap is fixedly associated with the vessel.
