Abstract
In a method of producing a photonic crystal fibre, a preform (300) that includes holes is formed and the preform (300) is drawn into a fibre. The method includes the step of applying a pressure differential to certain of the holes to control changes in the fibre structure during the draw.

A method of making a photonic crystal fibre, comprising forming a preform that includes holes and drawing the preform into a fibre in which said holes form a fibre structure, wherein the method includes controlling changes in the fibre structure during the draw by establishing a first pressure in at least one of said holes and establishing a second pressure different from the first pressure in at least one other of said holes.
