Abstract
Various methods and apparatus for simultaneously texturing two single-sided hard memory disks is provided. The two disks are placed in a concentric contact merge orientation such that the outwardly facing surface of each disk may be simultaneously subjected to texturing by equipment designed to texture one double-sided disk.
Claims44
A method of manufacturing hard disks for use in a disk drive, the method comprising:
- a. Placing a plurality of disks in a carrier;
- b. Removing a pair of disks from the carrier;
- c. Simultaneously texturing the one surface of each of said disks;
- d. Returning the pair of disks to the carrier.

A method of texturing hard disks, comprising:
- a. Placing a plurality of disks in a carrier, with a space between adjacent disks;
- b. Forming a liquid layer between the disks;
- c. Removing a pair of adjacent disks from the carrier;
- d. Merging the disks to remove the gap between the disks such that the inside surface of the disks are in contact and the outside surface of each disk face outwardly;
- e. Texturing the outside surface of each disk in the pair simultaneously.

A method of texturing disks used in hard disk drives, the method comprising:
- a. placing a plurality of disks each having a central aperture in a carrier with a gap between adjacent disks;
- b. removing a pair of disks from the carrier;
- c. merging the pair of disks;
- d. simultaneously texturing the outside surface of each disk;
- e. demerging the pair of disks.
