Abstract
An inkjet ink binder including polymeric nanoparticles (“PNPs”) having a mean diameter in the range of 1 to 50 nanometers, wherein the PNPs include as polymerized units 1-20%, by weight based on dry polymer weight, of a curable composition. The reaction of the curable composition can be initiated thermally, chemically or via actinic radiation. An inkjet ink composition comprising a liquid medium, a colorant and the inkjet binder and a method for improving the durability of inkjet ink printed on a substrate are also provided.
Claims8
A binder composition comprising polymeric nanoparticles (“PNPs”) having a mean diameter in the range of 1 to 50 nanometers, the PNPs comprising as polymerized units 1-20%, by weight based on dry polymer weight, of one or more curable compositions which are unreactive at ambient conditions and are capable of being intiated thermally, chemically or via actinic radiation.
A method for improving the durability of inkjet ink printed on a substrate comprising:
- (a) forming an inkjet ink composition comprising a liquid medium, a colorant and a binder composition comprising polymeric nanoparticles (“PNPs”) having a mean diameter in the range of 1 to 50 nanometers, the PNPs comprising as polymerized units 1-20%, by weight based on dry polymer weight, of one or more curable compositions which are unreactive at ambient conditions and are capable of being intiated thermally, chemically or via actinic radiation;
- (b) printing the ink on a substrate;
- and
- (c) curing the ink by applying thermal or radiation energy.
