The invention relates to highly ethoxylated hydroxy mixed ethers combined with washing, rinsing and cleaning agents, and the use of such hydroxy mixed ethers as anti-foaming agents in washing, rinsing and cleaning agents.

Hydroxy mixed ethers corresponding to general formula (I):
- R1O[CH2CH2O]xCH2CH(OH)R2 (I)
- in which R1 is a linear or branched alkyl and/or alkenyl group containing 4 to 22 carbon atoms, R2 is a linear or branched alkyl and/or alkenyl group containing 2 to 22 carbon atoms and x=40 to 80.
