Abstract
Methods and systems relating to a LCD are disclosed. In one exemplary embodiment, the LCD has an active state and an inactive state. The inactive state is configured to produce a desired residual image. The active state is configured to produce a desired non-residual image.
Claims33
A method comprising:
- displaying a desired residual image on an LCD;
- and,
- displaying a second different image on the LCD when energy is supplied to the LCD.
A method comprising:
- displaying a residual image on a first portion of an LCD;
- and, not displaying a residual image on a second different portion of the LCD.
A LCD comprising:
- a first polarizing sheet;
- a nematic layer;
- a second polarizing sheet, the nematic layer positioned between the first and second polarizing sheets;
- a reflective layer positioned adjacent the second polarizing sheet;
- and,
- at least portions of the first or second polarizing sheet comprising a portion selectively-oriented thereon, the selectively-oriented portion being oriented essentially perpendicular to a remainder of the sheet.
3 more elements
A LCD comprising:
- first and second polarizing sheets disposed in a generally parallel relationship with one another and having polarizers positioned thereon;
- a matrix layer positioned between the first and second polarizing sheets;
- a reflective layer positioned adjacent the second polarizing sheet and opposite the matrix layer;
- the polarizers of the first polarizing sheet being oriented in a first direction;
- and,
- less than an entirety of the polarizers of the second sheet being oriented in a direction that is different from the first direction.
3 more elements
A LCD polarizing sheet comprising:
- a plurality of polarizers positioned on the sheet, the sheet having at least first and second portions;
- the first portion of the sheet having polarizers positioned in a first orientation;
- and, the second portion of the sheet having polarizers positioned in a second orientation different from the first orientation.
A method of displaying images on a LCD comprising:
- controlling individual portions of a nematic layer;
- and,
- said controlling canceling out a first portion of a polarizing sheet wherein the first portion comprises polarizers oriented in a first direction and a second different portion comprises polarizers oriented in a second different direction.
A display device comprising:
- means for displaying a desired residual image on an LCD;
- and,
- means for displaying a second different image on the LCD when power is supplied to the LCD.
A LCD display device comprising:
- first means for polarizing light along a first orientation;
- second means for polarizing light, wherein a first portion of the second means polarizes light along the first orientation and a second portion polarizes light along a second different orientation;
- controllable nematic means positioned between the first and second means;
- and,
- reflective means positioned opposite the controllable nematic means.
2 more elements
A display device comprising:
- a LCD having an active state and an inactive state, wherein the inactive state is configured to produce a desired residual image, and the active state is configured to produce a desired non-residual image.
