Abstract
A host material for Tm3+-doping is provided. The host material is a fluorophosphate glass having a non-zero concentration of Tm3+, cation elements that include at least an alkaline earth, phosphorus, and aluminum, and anion elements that include oxygen (O) and fluorine (F). The fluorine(F)/oxygen (O) ratio (F/(F+O)) for the fluorophosphate glass of the embodiments of the present invention can be in the range of about 0.5 to about 0.85. The fluorophosphate glass further can have an alkali metal concentration of 10 mole % or less to improve durability. The Tm-doped fluorophosphate glass can be incorporated into an amplifier or laser utilized in the 14xx nm wavelength region.
Claims31
A glass material, comprising:
- a fluorophosphate glass having a non-zero concentration of Tm3+, cation elements that include at least an alkaline earth, phosphorus, and aluminum, and anion elements that include oxygen (O) and fluorine (F), wherein a ratio of F/(F+O) is in the range of about 0.5 to about 0.8.
A composition, comprising:
- a fluorophosphate glass having about 13 cation % to about 26 cation % P, less than about 10 mol % alkali metal, and having a concentration of Tm ions at an amount whereby the lifetime of an upper level for a 1480 mn transition is at least about 350 μs.
A composition, comprising:
- an alkali-free fluorophosphate glass having a concentration of Tm ions at an amount whereby the lifetime of an upper level for a 1480 nm transition is at least about 350 μs.
A glass composition, comprising:
- about 13 cation % to about 26 cation % P;
- about 40 cation % to about 75 cation % R, where R comprises at least one alkaline earth fluoride;
- about 5 cation % to about 50 cation % (total) Al;
- and
- 0.001 to about 0.5 cation % Tm, wherein a fluorine(F)-oxygen (O) ratio of F/(F+O) is in the range of about 0.5 to about 0.85.
A glass composition comprising:
- a fluorophosphate glass having a non-zero concentration of Tm3+, cation elements that include at least an alkaline earth, phosphorus, and aluminum, and anion elements that include oxygen (O) and fluorine (F), wherein a ratio of F/(F+O) is in the range of about 0.4 to about 0.9, and wherein the glass composition contains less than about 10 mol % alkali metal compounds.
An optical amplification device, comprising:
- a fluorophosphate glass having a non-zero concentration of Tm3+, cation elements that include at least an alkaline earth, phosphorus, and aluminum, and anion elements that include oxygen (O) and fluorine (F), wherein a ratio of F/(F+O) is in the range of about 0.5 to about 0.8.
