Framed storm drain insert sediment filter

A method of installing a catch basin filter in a catch basin, the catch basin comprising:

• an inlet through which water and solids flow into the catch basin, an outlet through which water flows out of the catch basin, wherein the inlet is positioned above the outlet, and a basin sidewall defining a chamber having an upper end at the inlet and a recess located at the upper end, the grate located on the top of the basin inlet and having grate sides positioned in the recesses, and the filter comprising:
• a two-dimensional support frame adapted to be received within the recess of the catch basin beneath the grate;
• and
• a filter bag coupled to the support frame, said filter bag having an open top adapted to be positioned at the catch basin inlet, a closed bottom and a bag sidewall, said method comprising the steps of:
• placing the filter bag wholly within the catch basin chamber;
• resting the support frame within the recesses of the upper end of the catch basin.

A catch basin filter for use in a catch basin of the type having a basin sidewall with an upper end at a catch basin inlet and a recess located at the upper end into which a grate is received, wherein the catch basin filter includes:

• a two-dimensional support frame adapted to be received within and rest upon the recess of the catch basin beneath the grate, said support frame including means for expanding the frame in at least one dimension to adapt the frame to fit within catch basin inlets of various dimensions;
• a collar having loops defined along a periphery thereof with the support frame received within the loops and a cutout formed within the center of the collar;
• and
• a filter bag adapted to be positioned at the catch basin inlet and having an open top coupled to the collar cutout, a closed bottom and a bag sidewall.
