The present invention provides animal collagens and gelatins and compositions thereof, and methods of producing the same.

A composition comprising a recombinant porcine collagen.
A recombinant porcine collagen of one type of collagen free of any other type of collagen.
A composition comprising a recombinant porcine gelatin.
An isolated and purified polypeptide comprising a sequence selected from the group consisting of:
- (e) SEQ ID NO:8;
- (f) SEQ ID NO:10;
- (g) SEQ ID NO:12;
- and
- (h) fragments or variants thereof.
An isolated and purified polynucleotide comprising a sequence selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) SEQ ID NO:7;
- (b) SEQ ID NO:9;
- (c) SEQ ID NO:11;
- and
- (d) fragments and variants thereof.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a recombinant porcine collagen.
A pharmaceutical composition comprising a recombinant porcine gelatin.
A method for producing a recombinant porcine collagen, the method comprising:
- (a) introducing into a host cell at least one polynucleotide encoding a porcine collagen;
- (b) culturing the host cell under conditions suitable for expression;
- and
- (c) recovering the recombinant porcine collagen.
A method for producing a recombinant porcine collagen, the method comprising:
- (a) introducing into a host cell at least one polynucleotide encoding a porcine collagen, and at least one polynucleotide encoding a post-translational enzyme important to the biosynthesis of collagen;
- (b) culturing the host cell under conditions suitable for expression;
- and
- (c) isolating the recombinant porcine collagen.
A method for producing a recombinant porcine gelatin, the method comprising:
- (a) providing recombinant porcine collagen;
- and
- (b) obtaining the recombinant porcine gelatin therefrom.
A method for producing a recombinant porcine gelatin, the method comprising:
- (a) producing recombinant porcine gelatin directly from an altered porcine collagen construct;
- and
- (b) isolating the recombinant porcine gelatin.
A hard gel capsule comprising a recombinant porcine gelatin.
A soft gel capsule comprising a recombinant porcine gelatin.
An edible composition comprising a recombinant porcine gelatin.
A protein supplement comprising a recombinant porcine gelatin.
