Abstract
Methods and systems for processing streams of media data. The system may allow for the demultiplexing of a multiple multi-program transport stream (“MPTS”) into a single program transport stream (“SPTS”). The system also provides a data structure for storing a program that facilities the rapid positioning at a desired time within the program during playback. In addition, the system when recording a program time processes time discontinuities so that positioning based on time during playback can occur rapidly. The system also allows a live television broadcast to be paused indefinitely paused in way that will not use up all system storage, but and allow the most recent broadcast to be available for playback.
Claims50
A method of removing a program from a multi-program stream, the method comprising:
- receiving an indication of the program to be removed;
- modifying a program association table of the multi-program stream to reflect the removal of the program;
- and
- removing all packets from the stream that are associated with the program to be removed.
A method of adjusting time stamps on a program stream, the method comprising:
- calculating a packet rate based on packet clock references;
- calculating an anticipated packet clock reference based on the calculated packet rate;
- receiving a packet clock reference that is not consistent with the anticipated packet clock reference;
- and
- when the received packet clock reference is not consistent, replacing the received packet clock reference with the anticipated clock reference.
A method of pausing of a television program, the method comprising:
- enabling the presenting of the television program;
- receiving an indication to pause the television program;
- enabling the recording of the television program;
- and
- when the length of the recorded television program exceeds a limit length, deleting the earliest portion of the recorded television program.
A method for discovering assets recorded on a program store, the method comprising:
- retrieving the file names of media files stored in the program store;
- parsing the file names to identify the assets represented by the file names;
- and
- for each identified asset,
- creating an asset header;
- for each media file associated with the asset,
- creating a file data structure;
- extracting time information from the media file;
- storing the extracted time information in the created file data structure;
- and
- linking the created data structure to the created asset header for the asset.
A method in a computer system for determining whether a program scheduled to be transmitted will exceed a transmission bandwidth, the method comprising:
- providing a sorted list of start and end time for each of a plurality of programs to be transmitted, each time in the list having a weight indicating the number programs to be transmitted at that time;
- receiving a start and end time for a new program to be transmitted;
- inserting the received start and end time into the sorted list;
- setting the weight for the received start time to one more than the weight of the previous time in the list;
- setting the weight for the received end time to the weight of the next time in the list;
- and
- incrementing the weights for the times between the start and end time.
A method of storing a program of a multi-program transport stream into a single program transport stream, the method comprising:
- receiving an indication of the program to be stored;
- and
- storing in the single program transport stream
- a program association table for the single program transport stream that contains an entry corresponding to the entry for the program in the program association table of the multi-program transport stream;
- a program map table corresponding to the program map table for the program in the multi-program transport stream;
- and
- all packets of the program.
A computer-readable media containing instructions for storing a program of a multi-program transport stream into a single program transport stream, by a method comprising:
- storing in the single program transport stream
- a program association table for the single program transport stream that contains an entry corresponding to an entry for the program in a program association table of the multi-program transport stream;
- a program map table corresponding to a program map table for the program in the multi-program transport stream;
- and
- all packets of the program retrieved from the multi-program transport stream.
A system for adjusting clock references of a program stream comprising:
- means for calculating an anticipated packet clock reference based on packet rate;
- means for detecting that a packet clock reference that is not consistent with the anticipated packet clock reference;
- and
- means for replacing the not-consistent packet clock reference with the anticipated clock reference.
A method of recording a television program, the method comprising:
- receiving an indication to start recording the television program;
- enabling the recording of the television program;
- and
- when the length of the recorded television program exceeds a limit length, deleting the earliest portion of the recorded television program.
A computer-readable medium containing instructions for controlling pausing of a television program, by a method comprising:
- enabling the presenting of the television program;
- receiving an indication to pause the television program;
- upon receiving the indication,
- enabling the recording of the television program;
- and
- disabling the presenting of the television program;
- and
- when the amount of the recorded television program exceeds a limit,
- deleting the earliest portion of the recorded television program.
A system for discovering assets recorded on a program store comprising:
- means for retrieving the file names of media files stored in the program store;
- means for identifying the assets represented by the retrieved file names;
- means for creating an asset header for each identified asset;
- and
- means for creating a file data structure, extracting time information from the media file, storing the extracted time information in the created file data structure, and linking the created data structure to the created asset header for the asset, for each media file associated with the asset.
A system for determining whether a program scheduled to be transmitted will exceed a transmission bandwidth comprising:
- a sorted list of start and end time for each of a plurality of programs to be transmitted, each time in the list having a weight indicating the number programs to be transmitted at that time;
- means for inserting a new start and end time into the sorted list;
- means for setting the weights for the new start time and the new end time;
- and
- means for incrementing the weights for the times between the new start and end time.
