Abstract
The invention provides polypeptides that act both as an agonist of the GLP-1 receptor and an antagonist of the glucagon receptor. Such polypeptides are useful for treating individuals with type 2 diabetes or other metabolic disorders.
Claims21
A method of treating obesity and obesity-related disorders, comprising administering to a mammal a therapeutically effective amount of a peptide that is a GLP-1 receptor agonist and a glucagon antagonist.
A method of treating or preventing a disease or condition selected from the group consisting of diabetes (Type 2), maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY), latent autoimmune diabetes adult (LADA), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), impaired fasting glucose (IFG), gestational diabetes, and metabolic syndrome X, comprising administering to a mammal an effective amount of a peptide that is a GLP-1 receptor agonist and a glucagon antagonist.
A method of treating or preventing secondary causes of diabetes selected from glucocorticoid excess, growth hormone excess, pheochromocytoma, and drug-induced diabetes, comprising administering to a mammal an effective amount of a a peptide that is a GLP-1 receptor agonist and a glucagon antagonist.
A method of increasing the sensitivity of pancreatic beta cells to an insulin secretagogue, comprising administering to a mammal an effective amount of a a peptide that is a GLP-1 receptor agonist and a glucagon antagonist.
