Abstract
Amine fabric softener actives are prepared in dispersion and/or clear form with materials to improve performance by increasing the cationic charge density. These materials include polycationic compounds, especially cationic polymers; single long-chain cationic compounds; and carboxylic acids that increase the acidity in the rinse, thus lowering pH and increasing the percentage of amine fabric softener active that is protonated. Antistatic properties are also improved.
Claims25
Amine fabric softener compositions comprising:
- (A) from about 2% to about 80%, by weight of the composition, of water insoluble amine fabric softener active containing at least two C6-C22 hydrocarbyl groups, wherein no more than one C6-C22 hydrocarbyl group is less than C12 and at least one C6-C22 hydrocarbyl group is at least C16, said groups having an IV from about 0 to about 140, said groups comprising straight and/or branched chain hydrocarbon groups, said amine softener active being neutralized by an acid;
- (B) at least one material to increase the cationic charge density of said amine fabric softener active;
- (C) optionally, from about 2% to about 60%, by weight of the composition, of quatemary ammonium softener active;
- (D) optionally, less than about 40%, by weight of the composition, of principal solvent having a ClogP of from about 0.15 to about 0.64, and at least some degree of asymmetry;
- and
- (E) aqueous solvent.
