Abstract
A wireless communication device is provided. The device comprises a digital circuit, an analog circuit, and a control circuit. The digital circuit is arranged to perform digital processing in a signal path. The analog circuit is arranged to perform analog processing in the signal path. The control circuit is arranged to receive control signals as input and arranged to provide output control signals for the analog circuit.
Claims51
A device for use in receiving or transmitting wireless communication signals, comprising:
- a digital section configured to receive control signals relating to external characteristics for the wireless communication;
- an analog section having at least two controllable elements;
- and
- a control section configured to receive and process the control signals so as to generate decision signals and to set characteristics of the controllable elements based on the decision signals.
A wireless communication device, comprising:
- a digital circuit arranged to perform digital processing in a signal path;
- an analog circuit arranged to perform analog processing in the signal path;
- and
- a control circuit arranged to receive control signals as input and to provide output control signals, the control circuit being configured to select a configuration of the analog circuit based on determining characteristics of a signal in the signal path.
A transmitting device, comprising:
- a digital circuit arranged to receive a digital input signal as input and to output a digital output signal, the digital output signal being obtained from digital processing of the input signal;
- an analog circuit arranged to receive the digital output signal as input and to output an analog output signal, the analog output signal being obtained from analog processing of the digital output signal;
- and
- a control circuit arranged to receive control signals as input, the control signals comprising digital control signals directly related to the digital output signal, from the digital circuit and/or external control signals and arranged to provide output control signals for the analog circuit, the control circuit being configured to select a configuration of the analog circuit based on determining characteristics of a version of the input signal.
A receiving device, comprising:
- an analog circuit arranged to receive an input signal and to output an output signal, the output signal being obtained from analog processing of the received input signal;
- a digital circuit arranged to receive the output signal as input and to output a digital signal, the digital signal being obtained from digital processing of the output signal;
- and
- a control circuit arranged to receive control signals as input, the control signals comprising digital control signals, related to the received input signal and determined from the digital output signal by estimation, from the digital circuit and/or external control signals and arranged to provide output control signals for the analog circuit, the control circuit being configured to select a configuration of the analog circuit based on determining characteristics of a version of the input signal.
A control circuit for estimating a plurality of characteristics of a received signal and/or distortions imposed by an analog circuit receiving the signal, the circuit comprising:
- means for measuring a digital signal determined as output from the analog circuit;
- means for determining a first estimate of the characteristics;
- and
- means for determining based on the first estimate of the characteristics whether improved estimates are obtainable and, if so, selecting a function from a predetermined set of functions to determine a second estimate of the characteristics..
A microprocessor containing a control circuit for estimating a plurality of characteristics of a received signal and/or distortions imposed by an analog circuit receiving the signal, the circuit comprising:
- means for measuring a digital signal determined as output from the analog circuit;
- means for determining a first estimate of the characteristics;
- and
- means for determining based on the first estimate of the characteristics whether improved estimates are obtainable and, if so, selecting a function from a predetermined set of functions to determine a second estimate of the characteristics.
A method of estimating a plurality of characteristics of a received signal and/or distortions imposed by an analog circuit receiving the signal, the method comprising:
- measuring a digital signal determined as output from the analog circuit;
- determining a first estimate of the characteristics;
- and
- determining based on the first estimate of the characteristics whether improved estimates are obtainable and, if so, selecting a function from a predetermined set of functions to determine a second estimate of the characteristics.
A method of controlling an analog circuit of a wireless communication device at run time, such that a signal processed by the analog circuit and/or analog circuit itself has desired characteristics, the method comprising:
- inputting desired characteristics,
- executing the following so as to yield at least one estimated characteristic;
- measuring a digital signal determined as output from the analog circuit;
- determining a first estimate of the characteristics;
- and
- determining based on the first estimate of the characteristics whether improved estimates are obtainable and, if so, selecting a function from a predetermined set of functions to determine a second estimate of the characteristics;
- selecting a configuration from a set of predetermined configurations based on the desired characteristics and, if available, the second estimate of the characteristics;
- and
- setting the configuration of the analog circuit according to the selected configuration.
A computer readable medium for storing a program that executes a method of controlling an analog circuit of a wireless communication device at run time, such that a signal processed by the analog circuit and/or analog circuit itself has desired characteristics, the method comprising:
- inputting desired characteristics,
- executing the following so as to yield at least one estimated characteristic;
- measuring a digital signal determined as output from the analog circuit;
- determining a first estimate of the characteristics;
- and
- determining based on the first estimate of the characteristics whether improved estimates are obtainable and, if so, selecting function from a predetermined set of functions, to determine a second estimate of the characteristics.
- selecting a configuration from a set of predetermined configurations based on the desired characteristics and, if available, the second estimate of the characteristics;
- and
- setting the configuration of the analog circuit according to the selected configuration.
