Abstract
The invention provides methods for diagnosis or prognosis of cardiovascular disease involving the detection of an elevated amount of MIC-1 in a test body sample. The invention also provides methods for treatment of cardiovascular disease and other chronic inflammatory disease.

A method of diagnosis or prognosis of cardiovascular disease, the method comprising detecting an elevated amount of MIC-1 in a test body sample from a subject.
A method of treatment of cardiovascular disease in a subject, said method comprising administering to said subject an effective amount of an agent which inhibits the activity or expression of MIC-1.
A method of treatment of cardiovascular disease in a subject, said method comprising administering to said subject an effective amount of an agent which enhances or increases the activity or expression of MIC-1.
A method of treatment of a chronic inflammatory disease in a subject, said method comprising administering to said subject an effective amount of an agent which inhibits the activity or expression of MIC-1.
A method of treatment of a chronic inflammatory disease in a subject, said method comprising administering to said subject an effective amount of an agent enhances or increases the activity or expression of MIC-1.
