Abstract
A novel cotton cultivar, designated DP 491, is disclosed. The invention relates to the seeds of cotton cultivar DP 491, to the plants of cotton DP 491 and to methods for producing a cotton plant produced by crossing the cultivar DP 491 with itself or another cotton variety. The invention further relates to hybrid cotton seeds and plants produced by crossing the cultivar DP 491 with another cotton cultivar.

Seed of a cotton variety designated DP 491, representative seed having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. ______.
A method for producing a cotton variety DP 491-derived cotton plant, comprising:
- a) crossing cotton variety DP 491, representative samples of said variety having been deposited under ATCC accession number ______, with a second cotton plant to yield progeny cotton seed;
- and
- b) growing said progeny cotton seed, under plant growth conditions, to yield said cotton variety DP 491-derived cotton plant.
- c) crossing said cotton variety DP 491-derived cotton plant with itself or another cotton plant to yield additional cotton variety DP 491-derived progeny cotton seed;
- d) growing said progeny cotton seed of step (c) under plant growth conditions, to yield additional cotton variety DP 491-derived cotton plants;
- and
- e) repeating the crossing and growing steps of (c) and (d) from 0 to 7 times to generate further cotton variety DP 491-derived cotton plants.
