Substituted 1,4,7-triazacyclononane-N,N′,N″-triacetic acid compounds with a pendant donor amino group, metal complexes thereof, compositions thereof, and methods of use in diagnostic imaging and treatment of a cellular disorder.

A compound of the formula (Ia):

- wherein each of R, R′, R2-5 and Q are independently hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, hydroxyalkyl, aryl, aryloxy, hydroxyaryl, heteroaryl, thioalkyl, thioaryl, or an amino acid-containing group;
- and n is 1 or 2.
A compound of the formula (Ib):

- wherein one of R, R′, R2-5 and Q is selected from the group consisting of alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, hydroxyalkyl, aryl, aryloxy, hydroxyalkyl, heteroaryl, thioalkyl, thioaryl, and an amino acid-containing group and the remaining substituents are each independently hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, hydroxyalkyl, aryl, aryloxy, hydroxyaryl, heteroaryl, thioalkyl, thioaryl, or an amino acid-containing group;
- and n is 1 or 2.

- n is 1 or 2;
- and m is 1-5.
