Abstract
A device for directly applying thermotherapeutic liquid to an area upon the surface of an afflicted patient, and methods of use thereof, are described. In particular a device for applying water-based liquid at a therapeutic temperature directly to an afflicted area in order to create a localized hyperthermia, is presented. The afflicted area may be either on the skin of the patient, or subcutaneous. The device is also effective for disinfection, irrigation, lavage, and the like, when employing a suitable solution. The liquid may also have a mild oxidizing effect, which, if greater upon afflicted than upon non-afflicted cells, would enhance the therapeutic effect in conjunction with the therapy herein described.
Claims26
A device for applying liquid directly to a selected area of a patient comprising:
- a liquid control means for maintaining a liquid at a therapeutically beneficial temperature;
- a liquid applicator surrounding said area in fluid tight engagement;
- and
- a liquid movement means operatively connected with said liquid control means and said liquid applicator.
A device for applying therapeutic liquid directly to an afflicted area of the surface of an afflicted patient's body, comprising:
- a liquid supply means;
- a liquid return means;
- a liquid control means;
- a liquid movement means;
- and
- an applicator interposed between said liquid supply means and said liquid return means, and wherein said applicator is secured about said afflicted area.
A device for delivering a therapeutic liquid to an applicator about a selected area of a patient, comprising:
- a reservoir;
- a therapeutic liquid placed within said reservoir;
- a heat transfer means placed within said reservoir which engage in a controlled thermal exchange with said liquid;
- a control means for regulating said thermal exchange so as to closely maintain the temperature of said liquid at a given selected temperature;
- a supply conduit intermediate said reservoir and said applicator for delivering said fluid form said reservoir to said applicator;
- a return conduit for removing used fluid from said applicator;
- a pump for causing liquid to flow from said reservoir to said applicator;
- and
- a system control means for regulating the operation of said device.
A method of applying liquid directly to a selected area of a patient, said method comprising:
- maintaining a liquid at a therapeutically beneficial temperature;
- securing an applicator about said area such that said applicator is in fluid tight engagement about said area;
- and
- transporting said liquid through said applicator such that said liquid comes in contact with said selected area.
A device for applying therapeutic liquid directly to an afflicted area of a human body, comprising:
- a reservoir;
- a liquid supply operatively connected to said reservoir;
- an applicator operatively connected to said supply means, said applicator positioned about said afflicted area;
- a liquid return operatively connected to said applicator and said reservoir to form a closed loop;
- and
- a pump operatively connected to said liquid return and interposed between said applicator and said reservoir, wherein said pump draws said therapeutic liquid through said device and provides vacuum pressure to secure said applicator about said afflicted area.
A device for applying therapeutic liquid directly to an afflicted area of a human body, comprising:
- a reservoir;
- a liquid supply operatively connected to said reservoir;
- an applicator operatively connected to said supply means, said applicator positioned over said afflicted area;
- a liquid return operatively connected to said applicator and said reservoir to form a closed loop;
- and
- a pump operatively connected to said liquid supply and interposed between said applicator and said reservoir, wherein said pump draws said therapeutic liquid from said reservoir, through said liquid supply and into said applicator, through said liquid return, and to said reservoir, such that said therapeutic liquid is recirculated through said device.
A device for applying therapeutic liquid to an afflicted area of a human body, comprising:
- a reservoir;
- a liquid supply operatively connected to said reservoir;
- a bandage applicator operatively connected to said supply, said bandage applicator positioned over and about said afflicted area;
- a collection container operatively connected to said bandage applicator;
- and
- a pump operatively connected to said liquid supply means and interposed between said bandage applicator and said reservoir, wherein said liquid movement means draws said therapeutic liquid from said reservoir, through said liquid supply means and into said bandage applicator, and to said collection container, such that said therapeutic liquid is deposited within said collection container.
A device for applying therapeutic liquid to an afflicted area of a human body, comprising:
- a reservoir;
- a liquid supply operatively connected to said reservoir;
- a bandage applicator operatively connected to said supply means, said bandage applicator positioned over said afflicted area;
- and
- a negative pressure collection container operatively connected to said bandage applicator, wherein said negative pressure container draws said therapeutic liquid from said reservoir, through said liquid supply means and into said bandage applicator, and to said negative pressure collection container, such that said therapeutic liquid is deposited within said negative pressure collection container.
