Abstract
A method for forming a synthesis gas with a tailored hydrogen/carbon dioxide ratio that is optimized for use in one or more predetermined downstream processes wherein membrane gas separation is employed to form a hydrogen rich stream and a separate synthesis gas product which product has said tailored ratio.
Claims19
A method for producing a synthesis gas with a controlled hydrogen/carbon monoxide ratio, which ratio is tailored to meet the desired operating requirements of at least one predetermined downstream process, comprising reforming a feed containing methane to form a first mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, subjecting at least part of said first mixture to at least one membrane gas separation process wherein a portion of said hydrogen in said first mixture is separated from said first mixture to produce a separate second mixture containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide, said second mixture having said tailored hydrogen/carbon monoxide ratio for the operation of said at least one predetermined downstream process.
