Abstract
A photoluminescent tile composition made of a tile base and a matrix of photoluminescent material disbursed throughout the tile base. The tile base includes a non-transparent mineral filler. The photoluminescent material located on exposed surfaces absorb and release light. The same manufacturing methods and equipment used to manufacture conventional floor tile can be used to manufacture floor tiles from the tile composition.
Claims20
A photoluminescent tile composition comprising a tile base and a matrix of photoluminescent material disbursed throughout the tile base, the base comprising a nontransparent filler.
A method of manufacturing photoluminescent tiles comprising the steps of:
- providing the ingredients of a tile base comprising a thermoplastic binder and a nontransparent filler;
- providing a photoluminescent material;
- mixing the tile base ingredients and the photoluminescent material together to form a mixture mass wherein the photoluminescent material is disbursed throughout the mass;
- rolling the mixture mass to form a blanket mass;
- and
- forming one or more tiles from the blanket mass.
A method of manufacturing photoluminescent ceramic tiles comprising the steps of:
- providing the ingredients of a ceramic tile base comprising a clay filler;
- providing a photoluminescent material;
- mixing the ceramic tile base ingredients and the photoluminescent material together to form a mixture mass wherein the photoluminescent material is disbursed throughout the mass;
- molding the mass to form tiles;
- and
- firing the tiles to form ceramic tiles.
