Method and system for tracking and reporting time spent on tasks

An end user computer comprising:

• a processor;
• a display connected to the processor;
• and
• at least one input device connected to the processor;
• wherein the processor is configured to perform the steps of
• detecting a start time when a user begins to use an application to perform a task on the end user computer;
• detecting a stop time when a user stops performing the task;
• storing the start and stop times as an activity;
• displaying to the user a suggested category to which the activity corresponds;
• and
• accepting a designated category from the user, the designated category not necessarily being the same as the suggested category;
• wherein either the start time or the stop time is detected through receipt of a message from the application.
