Solid ink stick with efficient aspect ratio

An ink stick for use in a phase change ink printer having an ink stick feed system comprising at least one ink stick feed channel for receiving the ink stick and for moving the ink stick in a longitudinal direction through the ink channel, the ink stick comprising:

• an ink stick body having:
• an outer perimeter;
• a longitudinal dimension, wherein the longitudinal dimension is substantially parallel the when the ink stick body is inserted into the feed channel;
• and
• a lateral dimension substantially perpendicular the longitudinal dimension;
• a key element formed in the outer perimeter of the ink stick body;
• wherein the lateral dimension of the ink stick body is greater than or approximately equal to the longitudinal dimension.

An ink stick for use in a phase change ink printer having an ink stick feed system comprising at least one ink stick feed channel for receiving the ink stick and for moving the ink stick in a longitudinal direction through the ink stick feed channel, the ink stick comprising:

• a three dimensional ink stick body having a lateral dimension and a longitudinal dimension, and having a perimeter;
• wherein the ink stick body is configured to fit into the ink stick feed channel with the longitudinal dimension of the ink stick body substantially parallel to the longitudinal direction of the ink stick feed channel;
• wherein the ink stick body includes at least one key element formed in the ink stick body perimeter;
• wherein when the ink stick is inserted into the ink stick feed channel, the lateral dimension of the ink stick body is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the ink stick feed channel;
• and
• wherein the lateral dimension of the ink stick body is greater than the longitudinal dimension of the ink stick body.
