Abstract
A protective device fitted to an electromagnetic coil to prevent damage to a thermal protective switch installed in the electromagnetic coil beneath the winding. In a preferred embodiment there is a subsequent encapsulation process following manufacture of the coil. Preferably, said device comprises a protective cap shaped to conform with the shape of the thermal switch and closely fitting the thermal switch and wiring connected thereto.
Claims9
A method of making an electromagnetic coil having a thermal protective switch, said method comprising:
- positioning said switch within a winding former of said coil,
- covering said switch with a protective cap adapted to resist forces thereto by coil windings wound onto the former and other forces and temperatures applied during manufacture of the coil, such that critical parts of the thermal protective switch are protected from damage during manufacture of the electromagnetic coil,
- applying coil windings to the winding former fitted with the switch and protective cap.
A method as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the protective cap has an outer extremity which, when in situ covering the switch, sits proud of the adjacent outer perimeter of the winding former, and wherein the cap remains out of compressive contact with parts critical to the operation of the switch after coil windings have, been wound onto the former.
An electromagnetic coil having a thermal protective switch, wherein the thermal protective switch is located beneath a protective cap on a winding former of said coil and further wherein coil windings wound around the former lie across the cap and retain, the cap in position atop the switch.
