Defibrillator charging pack

An insertable charging pack comprising:

• a body having proximal and distal ends and formed by a base portion and a cover portion;
• a charging source positioned within the base portion and operable to recharge a power source;
• and
• a latch formed from a portion of the cover and located at the distal end of the body, the latch movable between an extended position and a retracted position the latch biased in the extended position;
• wherein partial insertion of the proximal end of the charging pack into a portable external defibrillator causes the latch to move to the retracted position, the latch returning to the extended position after the charging pack is fully inserted in a portable external defibrillator.

A charging device capable of connection to a portable external defibrillator, the charging device comprising:

• a body;
• means for recharging a power source of a portable external defibrillator, disposed within the body;
• means for transferring power from the recharging means to the power source of the portable external defibrillator;
• means for securing the charging device within the portable external defibrillator when the charging device is inserted into the portable external defibrillator.

In a portable external defibrillator device of the type having a body which houses defibrillator components including defibrillator circuitry and a power source, the improvement comprising:

• a) a charging well provided in the body of the portable external defibrillator;
• and
• b) a charging device selectively removable from within the charging well, the charging device including:
• i) a body including a charging source operable to recharge the power source of the portable external defibrillator device;
• and
• ii) an electrical connector coupled to the body of the charging device and in electrical communication with the charging source.

A portable external defibrillator comprising:

• (a) defibrillator circuitry and a power source;
• (b) a body for housing the defibrillator circuitry;
• (c) a selectively removable charging device including:
• (i) a body including a charging source operable to recharge the power source of the portable external defibrillator;
• and
• (ii) a latch movable between an extended position and a retracted position, the latch biased in the extended position;
• and
• (d) a charging well provided in the defibrillator body into which the removable charging device is inserted, the charging well including:
• (i) a side wall, a portion of which is operable to contact the latch of the charging device as the charging device is inserted into the charging well.
