Abstract
Methods and apparatus for providing a durable, lightweight lifting member and assembly for use in handling elongated members. One embodiment comprises a cage or net made of a flexible material, the cage or net being adapted to receive one end of an elongated member. Another embodiment is characterized by a flexible lifting member constructed of a pliable, non-metallic material and comprising a body portion, an end portion, and a lifting strap.
Claims53
An apparatus for lifting an elongated member, comprising:
- a flexible member having a first end and a second end, said first end adapted to receive one end of the elongated member;
- an end portion disposed on said second end of said flexible member to limit axial movement of the tubular within said flexible member;
- and
- a lifting strap attached to said flexible member, wherein said flexible member, end portion, and said lifting strap are constructed of a pliable, non-metallic material.
A lifting system, comprising:
- a body having a first end and a second end;
- one or more axial straps disposed on said body and extending across said second end;
- a lifting strap attached to said body;
- and
- wherein said body, axial straps, and lifting strap are constructed of a pliable, nonmetallic material.
An apparatus for lifting tubular members, comprising:
- an elongated portion made from a pliable, non-metallic material;
- and
- a means for connecting said elongated portion to a lifting apparatus, said means for connecting being coupled to said elongated portion.
An apparatus for lifting tubular members, comprising:
- a net made from a non-metallic material;
- and
- an insert capable of being disposed within said net.
A method for preparing an elongated member for movement, comprising:
- disposing a flexible lifting member about each end of the elongated member;
- and
- connecting the flexible lifting member to a lifting apparatus.
A method for preparing a tubular for movement, comprising:
- disposing an insert into a flexible lifting member;
- placing the insert and lifting member onto an end of the tubular.
A method for preparing a tubular for movement, comprising:
- disposing an insert onto each end of the tubular;
- disposing a flexible lifting member over each insert;
- and
- coupling the flexible lifting member to a tubular lifting mechanism.
An apparatus for lifting an elongated member, comprising:
- a cage made of a flexible material adapted to receive one end of the elongated member.
An assembly for lifting an elongated member, comprising:
- first and second cages made from a flexible material, each cage receiving one end of the elongated member;
- and
- a line connected to said cages.
An apparatus for lifting elongated members, comprising:
- a net member made from a flexible material and adapted to receive one end of the elongated member.
