Abstract
A sectional door including, a plurality of panels pivotally joined to each other, the panels including a facer having a front surface, a first joint member and a second joint member extending rearwardly of the facer, a pair of end stiles received at lateral extremities of the panels and placed in supporting relation thereto, the stiles having a recess adjacent one of the joint member, a hinge receiver located adjacent the recess and a hinge pivotally coupled to one of the panels at the hinge receiver and fastened to another of the panels at the end stile, wherein the recess provides a clearance for pivoting movement of the hinge and the storage or stowage of door components.
Claims44
A sectional door movable between a closed vertical position and an open horizontal position comprising, a plurality of panels having a front facer and a rear surface, first and second joints spaced and joined by said front facer and interconnecting said front facer and said rear surface, said first and second joint members being hinged to permit pivotal movement between adjacent of said panels, said first joint having primarily substantially planar surfaces oriented substantially perpendicular to said front facer and said second joint member being curvilinear, whereby a strong pinch resistant construction of said door is provided.
A sectional door system located within an opening defined by a pair of jambs and a header, the door system comprising:
- a pair of tracks adapted to be attached to the jambs;
- a door having a plurality of panels supported between said tracks, said panels having a front facer, a rear surface, a top interface, a bottom interface and lateral ends defining a panel body;
- end stiles at said lateral ends of said panels;
- hinges interconnecting adjacent of said panels;
- and
- a plurality of rollers located adjacent said lateral ends and supported in receivers fitted within said panel bodies, whereby said rollers may be mounted on said end stiles independent of said hinges and installed in said tracks prior to the installation of said hinges.
A sectional door comprising:
- a plurality of panels joined at an interface by at least one one-piece hinge;
- said hinge having a first leg and a second leg, said first leg attached to one of said plurality of panels on a first side of said interface and said second leg extending from said first leg and pivotally attached to another of said plurality of panels on a second side of said interface.
A sectional door used in conjunction with a counterbalance system having a cable, comprising:
- a plurality of panels pivotally coupled to each other;
- a cable retainer carried on one of said panels, adapted to secure the cable;
- a bore in said cable retainer;
- and
- a roller shaft with a roller wheel operatively mounted in said bore in said cable retainer.
A sectional door system comprising:
- a door, a counterbalance system including a drive tube, and a pair of tracks having a vertical track section and a horizontal track section joined by a transition track section, said door including a plurality of panels, wherein at least one of said panels contains a storage receiver adapted to receive at least one of said drive tubes and at least one of said track sections.
A roller carrier in a sectional door having a plurality of panels joined by hinges and supported within tracks by rollers having a wheel and a roller shaft carried on the panels, the roller carrier comprising:
- a roller block insertable within the panels defining at least one roller bore opening laterally outward of the panels, said roller bore being adapted to insertably receive the roller shaft.
A sectional door comprising:
- a plurality of panels pivotally joined to each other, said panels including a facer having a front surface, a first joint member and a second joint member extending rearwardly of said facer;
- a pair of end stiles received at lateral extremities of said panels and placed in supporting relation thereto, said stiles having a recess adjacent one of said joint members;
- a hinge receiver located adjacent said recess;
- and
- a hinge pivotally coupled to one of said panels at said hinge receiver and fastened to another of said panels at said end stile, wherein said recess provides a clearance for pivoting movement of said hinge.
A method of packaging a sectional door having a plurality of panels and door components, the method comprising:
- providing component receivers on the panels adapted to receive the components;
- stowing the components in said receivers;
- and
- packing said panels for shipment.
