Abstract
A method and system for managing refractory periods in a cardiac rhythm management device configured for biventricular or biatrial sensing. Refractory periods for each channel of the pacemaker are provided by interval timers that are triggered by sensed or paced events in order to prevent misinterpretation of sensing signals.
Claims20
A method for operating a cardiac rhythm management device, comprising:
- sensing a first ventricle through a first ventricular sensing channel and generating a first ventricle sense signal upon detection of depolarization occurring therein;
- sensing a second ventricle contralateral to the first ventricle through a second ventricular sensing channel and generating a second ventricle sense signal upon detection of depolarization occurring therein;
- pacing the second ventricle within a specified trigger interval after generation of a first ventricle sense signal;
- rendering each sensing channel refractory for a separately selected pacing refractory period after delivery of a pace;
- and,
- rendering a sensing channel refractory for a selected sensing refractory period after generation of a sense signal in that channel while continuing to sense in the other channel.

A cardiac rhythm management device, comprising:
- a first ventricular sensing channel for sensing a first ventricle and generating a first ventricle sense signal upon detection of depolarization occurring therein;
- a second ventricular sensing channel for sensing a second ventricle contralateral to the first ventricle and generating a second ventricle sense signal upon detection of depolarization occurring therein;
- a pacing channel for delivering paces to the second ventricle;
- a controller for controlling the delivery of paces in accordance with a programmed pacing mode;
- wherein the controller is programmed to:
- pace the second ventricle within a specified trigger interval after generation of a first ventricle sense signal;
- render each sensing channel refractory for a separately selected pacing refractory period after delivery of a pace;
- and,
- render a sensing channel refractory for a selected sensing refractory period after generation of a sense signal in that channel while continuing to sense in the other channel.
