Abstract
Compositions and methods for treating systems, especially oil and/or gas wells, characterized by metal sulfide deposits are provided. Compositions according to the invention generally comprise a thioacid, an amine salt, and a diphosphonic acid. Methods according to the invention may comprise introducing such composition into a system characterized by metal sulfide deposits, or alternatively, introducing into the system individual quantities of the composition components.

An aqueous dispersion comprising a thioacid, an amine salt, and a disphosphonic acid.
An aqueous dispersion comprising:
- a thioacid;
- an amine halide salt having the formula:
- 5
- where R2 is an aryl or aliphatic C1-C12 alkyl moiety and X− is a halide anion;
- and
- diphosphonic acid.
An aqueous dispersion comprising:
- a thioacid selected from the group of acids having the formula R1—SH, where R1 comprises at least one C2-C12 carboxylic acid moiety;
- an amine halide salt having the formula:
- 7
- where R2 is an aryl or aliphatic C1-C12 alkyl moiety;
- and
- a diphosphonic acid having the formula
- 8
- where R3 is a C1-C12 alkyl moiety.
A method of treating a system characterized by the presence of metal sulfides comprising the steps of:
- providing an aqueous dispersion comprising a thioacid, an amine salt and diphosphonic acid;
- and
- introducing said dispersion into said system.
A method of treating a system characterized by the presence of metal sulfides comprising introducing into said system individual quantities of a thioacid, an amine salt and diphosphonic acid.
