Abstract
A location reporting paging communication system comprising space satellites, ground stations and a remote receiving unit adapted to resolve a global position from signals transmitted from a communication transmitter. The subscriber in possession of the remote receiving unit updates the paging network with global positioning information. A caller paging a subscriber in possession of the remote receiving unit may request the global location of the remote receiving unit. The paging network could divulge or block such information from a caller depending on the requirements of the subscriber.
Claims17
A method for limiting access to the location of a mobile remote unit associated with a communication network comprising:
- (i) maintaining a list network resources that are preauthorized to be able to access the location information of said mobile remote unit for a time at said network;
- (ii) identifying a network resource from said list that should be inhibited from accessing the location of said mobile remote unit from said network during said time;
- (iii) denying access to the location information of said mobile remote unit to said network resource identified in (ii) while continuing to allow other network resources from said list (i) to access the location of said mobile remote unit.
A communication system comprising:
- a network of signal transmitting and receiving units;
- a mobile remote unit able to communicate with said network to establish mobile remote unit location information at the network;
- a pool of signal transmitting units from said network preauthorized to be able to access said mobile remote unit location information from said network for a time;
- the system able to limit access to said mobile remote unit location information to at least one of said signal transmitting and receiving units selected from said pool while allowing access to other signal transmitting and receiving units of said pool during said time.
A method for limiting access to the location information of a first resource associated with a communication network comprising:
- (i) granting permissions to at least a second and third resource to be able to access the location of the first resource for a time at the network;
- (ii) specifying that the at least third resource should be inhibited from accessing the location information of said first resource;
- (iii) using the specified information (ii) to limit said at least third resource from accessing the location information of said at least first resource;
A communication system comprising:
- a mobile remote unit able to communicate with the system to establish mobile remote unit location information within the system;
- a list of communication resources within the system that are preauthorized to access said mobile remote unit location information for a time from the system;
- said communication system able to inhibit at least a communication resource selected from said list from accessing said mobile remote unit location information while allowing other resources from selected from said list to access the location of said mobile remote unit during said time.
A method for updating a communication system with the location information of a mobile remote unit associated with the system:
- (i) detecting that location of the mobile remote unit has not been established within the system for a time and if true;
- (ii) requesting that the location of the mobile remote unit be established within the system;
- (iii) establishing the location of the mobile after receiving the request (ii);
- (iv) updating the system with the location of the mobile after it is established (iii);
A communication system comprising:
- a mobile remote unit;
- means to establish the location of the mobile remote unit within the system;
- a network of communication resources preauthorized to access said establish mobile remote unit location information from the system;
- the system able to deny access to the location information of the mobile remote unit;
A method for updating a communication system with the location information of a mobile remote unit associated with the system:
- establishing the location of the mobile remote unit;
- providing the location information of the mobile remote unit to the mobile remote unit;
- comparing the location information with known geographical areas for the mobile remote unit;
- generating a sensory signal if the comparison is negative and updating the system with the current location information of the mobile remote unit;
