Abstract
This invention provides an optical fiber component or the like having a structure with a high degree of freedom in design as an intermediate member for optically connecting optical functional components having different MFDs without increasing a connection loss. The optical fiber component includes an optical fiber having two end faces polished. The optical fiber has the first MFD conversion portion for changing the mode field diameter at an end portion including one end face, and the second MFD conversion portion for changing the mode field diameter at an end portion including the other end face opposing one end face.
Claims65
An optical fiber component including a first optical fiber having two end faces appropriately prepared,
- said first optical fiber having a first MFD conversion portion for changing a mode field diameter at an end portion including one end face of said first optical fiber, and a second MFD conversion portion for changing a mode field diameter at an end portion including the other end face opposing the one end face.
An optical module comprising:
- an optical functional component;
- a case which houses said optical functional component;
- and
- an optical fiber component which includes a first optical fiber having one end optically connected to said optical functional component and a mode field diameter of 8 μm or less at an intermediate portion excluding two end portions, said optical fiber component being entirely or partly housed in said case while at least a portion of the intermediate portion of said first optical fiber is bent at a radius of curvature of less than 30 mm.
