Abstract

A fluorescent material comprising an associate of a cyclic phenol sulfide selected from thiacarixarene, sulfinylated thiacarixarene and sulfonylated thiacarixarene represented by formula (1): 1 (wherein X represents S, SO, or SO2; n is an integer of 4 to 6; Y represents a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group, a halogenated hydrocarbon group, —COR1, —OR2, —COOR3, —CN, —CONH2, —NO2, —NR4R5, a halogen atom, —SO4R6 or —SO3R7; R1 to R5 each represents a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group; R6 and R7 each represents a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group or a metal; and plural Y's are the same or different) with a rare earth metal ion, and a fluorescent material composition comprising the fluorescent material dispersed or dissolved in a medium.
